PV GAS and PETRONAS Promote LNG Cooperation, Expanding Opportunities for International Gas Value Chain Development

Building on the strategic cooperation between Vietnam National Industry–Energy Group (PetroVietnam) and Malaysia’s national oil and gas company PETRONAS, Vietnam Gas Corporation (PV GAS) and PETRONAS held a meeting in Ho Chi Minh City on October 14, 2026, to discuss key areas of focus for the coming period.

Attending the meeting, PV GAS was represented by Mr. Duong Tri Hoi, General Director, while PETRONAS was represented by Mr. Ezran Mahadzir, Vice President of LNG, and Mr. Rosdi Ab Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of PETRONAS LNG (PLL), along with representatives from the relevant departments, affiliated units, and member companies of both parties.

At the meeting, PV GAS and PETRONAS discussed concrete steps to translate their mutual potential into practical, effective, and long-term business opportunities in liquefied natural gas (LNG), upstream gas, and international trading. The two parties aim to leverage their respective strengths, enhance competitiveness, and contribute to ensuring national energy security.

Promoting Long-Term LNG Cooperation and Expanding Trading Opportunities

One of the key topics discussed was promoting long-term LNG supply to the Vietnamese market. Based on the Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) and Strategic Alliance Agreement (SAA) between PetroVietnam and PETRONAS, long-term LNG cooperation is seen as a practical and effective approach to leveraging the capabilities and strengths of both groups. The two parties aim to work closely together to explore flexible and competitive commercial terms that comply with regulations, reflect the specific characteristics of the Vietnamese market, and meet future energy supply needs.

In addition to LNG, PV GAS and PETRONAS also discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in the upstream gas sector, including assessing investment opportunities in gas assets, making effective use of capacity, and optimizing their global business portfolios through gas and LNG trading and exchange activities.

The two parties also expressed a shared interest in strengthening cooperation, further developing natural gas resources from the PM3–Ca Mau area, and prioritizing gas supply from the area to the Vietnamese market.

Enhancing Capabilities and Expanding into International Business Development

Alongside expanding trade and investment opportunities and strengthening areas in which the two parties have a proven track record of effective cooperation, PV GAS also expressed a need to enhance its professional capabilities and international business expertise by acquiring and sharing PETRONAS’s experience in energy trading, maritime logistics, risk management, LNG terminal operations, and infrastructure systems. These areas are particularly important for PV GAS as it seeks to strengthen its commercial capabilities and risk management practices and gradually deepen its participation in international energy markets.

Strengthening cooperation between PV GAS and PETRONAS not only opens up prospects for developing LNG and natural gas businesses but also enables PV GAS to gradually enhance its capacity to participate in the global energy value chain.

With a focus on practical, long-term, and effective cooperation, the two parties aim to build a deep and enduring partnership that contributes positively to PV GAS’s sustainable development and helps ensure Vietnam’s energy security.
