Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Viet Son Meets with Baker Hughes (U.S.) Group

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Deputy Minister Nguyen Viet Son recently held a working session with Mr. Amerino Gatti, Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of the Oilfield Services & Equipment segment at Baker Hughes (U.S.).

Baker Hughes is a leading U.S. energy technology company providing a wide range of solutions, including oilfield services, gas and LNG technologies, industrial energy, CCUS (carbon capture, utilization and storage), geothermal energy, hydrogen, clean energy, and digital technologies. Baker Hughes supports governments and national energy companies in strengthening energy security, improving operational efficiency, reducing emissions, and developing highly skilled technical workforces.

Baker Hughes has been operating in Vietnam since 1997, maintaining close and long-standing cooperation with the Vietnam National Industry–Energy Group (Petrovietnam) and its member companies, as well as oil and gas operators, by providing advanced technologies and high-tech services for oil and gas exploration, development, and production; implementing specialized training programs and developing a highly skilled workforce; and promoting emissions management, digital transformation, and the development of new technologies in Vietnam’s energy sector.

Baker Hughes leaders expressed their desire to continue receiving the attention and support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and relevant Vietnamese authorities to effectively implement the group’s existing projects.

Mr. Amerino Gatti said that maintaining regular exchanges with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Petrovietnam, and relevant partners would enable the company to better understand the development needs of the energy sector, while promptly addressing difficulties and challenges encountered during project implementation. Accordingly, Baker Hughes expects to further expand its cooperation in Vietnam in line with the development orientation of the energy sector and make positive contributions to Vietnam’s energy transition.

Baker Hughes also shared its experience and prospects for cooperation in developing the carbon market, methane emissions reduction solutions, carbon capture and storage (CCS/CCUS), as well as clean energy technologies such as LNG and hydrogen, and in promoting the development of new energy markets, thereby supporting Vietnam in achieving its Net Zero 2050 target.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Viet Son welcomed and highly appreciated Baker Hughes’ effective contributions through its successful cooperation models with Petrovietnam and PV Drilling. Based on Petroleum Law No. 10/2026/QH16, promulgated by the National Assembly on August 23, 2026 and taking effect on March 1, 2027, with numerous new mechanisms and policies aimed at facilitating oil and gas activities. Accordingly, the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade called on Baker Hughes to:

1. Continue to promote cooperation in oil and gas exploration and production by applying solutions to optimize field operations, enhance the application of digital transformation, implement solutions to improve oil recovery factors, and provide integrated services.

2. Strengthen technology transfer and support the enhancement of Vietnam’s capacity to manufacture industrial and energy equipment; promote equipment localization and gradually increase the domestic production rate, thereby enabling Vietnamese enterprises to participate more deeply in Baker Hughes’ global value chain.

3. The Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to provide guidance and support and address issues related to mechanisms and policies to facilitate Baker Hughes’ continued investment expansion and effective, sustainable operations in Vietnam. At the same time, it expects that, with its experience, financial capacity, and technological expertise, Baker Hughes will continue to work alongside Vietnamese partners in the energy sector.
